WHAT: ARLD Day 2017
WHEN: April 28, 2017 (with Pre-Conference on April 27, 2017)
WHERE: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Chaska, Minnesota
ARLD Day is just around the corner! Join us on April 28, 2017 as we explore library space and design, academic freedom, the ACRL Framework, and many other areas of academic libraries. This annual gathering is hosted by the Minnesota Library Association’s Academic and Research Libraries Division. Keynote speaker, Lee Van Orsdel, will give a talk entitled Escaping Gravity: the Academic Library Reimagined. Grand Valley State University’s Mary Idema Pew Library, Learning and Information Commons, which opened in June 2013, was designed to evoke new behaviors, perceptions and experiences, redefining the library’s role in student learning.
Van Orsdel will describe the concepts and principles that drove the design of the Pew Library and its innovative services and programs. Steelcase Corporation partnered with the library in 2015 to complete a year-long post-occupancy research project. That research and other data gathered by the library’s User Experience Team provide insights into how students understand and use the new spaces and the many programs in the building. These insights may be useful for libraries considering large or small renovation projects, as well as libraries that have the opportunity to build new facilities. In addition to her keynote address, Ms. Van Orsdel will lead a breakout session on Intentional Design: Creating Library Spaces that Impact Learning.
ARLD Day is a great opportunity to share ideas, connect with colleagues, and explore new ideas for your library. Breakout Session information is now available. We hope you will be able to join us on April 28, 2017, at the beautiful University of Minnesota Arboretum in Chanhassen.
