The Cincinnati and Hamilton Country Library is looking for a Teen Librarian who isn’t afraid to work with inner city youth and who thrives in a chaotic/disruptive environment. This position isn’t for the faint of heart. This is for someone who can build relationships with kids and mentor at-risk teens in the aforementioned disruptive environment. They need someone with boundless reserves of energy, who can do karaoke with teens, teach them how to code and/or use other new media/ technology, and who can work collaboratively with outside organizations. You must not only think outside the box, but you must fundamentally challenge the validity of the box.
A bit of background: this is a newly-created position for this location. The Price Hill Branch are one of the smallest – and busiest – locations in the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County system. The neighborhood we serve is among the city’s poorest and most densely populated – and it is poised to become even more so as residents of surrounding communities are displaced to Price Hill (i.e. gentrification). The demographics of Price Hill is primarily African American, second-generation Appalachian transplants, and Latinx/Hispanic immigrants. We see around 400-500 visitors per day, which, given our size (we are a very small Carnegie building), is an astounding number.
This person will not only work directly with older kids and teens but they will also play a vital — and creative — role as we strive to position the Branch as an even more vital force in the Price Hill community.
