The Hennepin County Library has two internship openings for archives and preservation.

Archives

Hennepin County Library’s (HCL) Special Collections department is seeking an Archives Intern to process maps and plans from the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County.

This intern will work approximately 12-16 hours per week from January 2018 through April 2018, not to exceed 150 hours. The schedule will be Monday through Thursday daytime hours and occasional Saturday hours.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this internship will include:

  • Create descriptions for the archival finding aid.
  • Scan materials and create descriptive metadata.

Best Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Experience and/or educational background in archival processing.
  • Experience and/or educational background in creating descriptive metadata.
  • Experience in digital scanning of archival materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preservation 

Hennepin County Library’s (HCL) Preservation department is seeking a Preservation Intern to work with plat books and tract ledgers from the Hennepin County Recorder’s Office.

This intern will work approximately 12-16 hours per week from January 2018 through April 2018, not to exceed 150 hours. The schedule will be Monday through Thursday daytime hours and occasional Saturday hours.

  • Create preservation enclosures for the books and ledgers.

Best Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to:
    • Follow detailed instructions.
    • Work independently.
    • Lift up to 40 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
    • Stand for extended periods of time.
