About this Award

St. Kate’s MLIS students do outstanding work each semester. The Beta Phi Mu honor society would like to recognize the quality of students’ written work with an award for an exceptional paper written by an MLIS student.

Bet Phi Mu is a national organization “founded in 1948 by a group of leading librarians and library educators to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement among library and information studies students.” The local chapter, Beta Beta Xi, was founded after ALA accreditation was granted to the MLIS program at St. Kate’s. Beta Beta Xi’s membership includes local library professionals, MLIS department faculty, and alumni of the MLIS program – go to to learn more about the organization.
